California Advanced Lactation Institute recognizes that individuals who are not currently employed or whose employment is unrelated to maternal child health may experience significant difficulty paying for the lactation education required to prepare for the IBLCE Exam. Without financial assistance, many individuals are unable to pursue IBCLC certification, and the community is thus unable to benefit from their passion, enthusiasm, and perspective. In addition, in recognition of the reality that the African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American, First Nations/Native American, and Pacific Islander populations, as well as individuals who identify as members of the LGBTQ community, are significantly underrepresented in the field of lactation support, special consideration will be given to individuals who self-identify as a member of any of the listed populations. Applications will be considered based upon the applicant’s personal statement of interest in becoming a lactation educator, so please state any affiliations you wish to be considered in the narrative statement.
This application is for individuals who wish to apply for a scholarship to the Lactation Education Specialist course, a portion of the CLIP 2018 program (value $495.) The course is comprised of 5 separate sessions, totaling 45 hours of lactation education in preparation for the IBLCE Exam and covering many areas of the IBLCE Content Outline. One (1) scholarship will be awarded for the 45-hour Lactation Education Specialist portion of the CLIP 2018 course.
There are no fees for this application, and there will be no financial costs to the scholarship recipient. The scholarship includes complete registration for the Lactation Education Specialist portion of the CLIP 2018 course, which is comprised of tuition for 5 class sessions which are held in Bakersfield, CA, all required learning materials, continental breakfast and lunch at all class sessions. Nursing babies in arms are always welcome to attend CALI courses.
Applications will be reviewed by members of Central Valley Lactation Association who are not faculty of CALI*. The application review process will occur from December 1- December 15, 2017. The recipient of the scholarship will be announced no later than December 15, 2017. CALI will disclose the total number of applicants at that time. The recipient of the scholarship will be asked to sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding their responsibilities as scholarship recipient, including but not limited to: attendance at all sessions (there are no make-up days scheduled in 2018,) agreement to complete all assignments and post-course tests to the best of their ability, agreement to volunteer for 25 hours at Baby Café between June 1 and October 1, 2018, and commitment to working in the Kern County community as a lactation educator. The requirement to volunteer at Baby Café Bakersfield cannot be completed prior to the stated timeframe because the individual must have completed the first 5 sessions of the course in order to volunteer as a lactation educator at Baby Café Bakersfield.
All of the questions on the application must be answered. There are no other formats in which to complete this scholarship application. Application period will end on Nov 30, 2017 at midnight.
